Frequent Urination

When blood glucose rises above a certain level, it is removed from the body in urine. Glucose cannot be passed out of the body alone.a large amount of water is also passed out from the body along with the sugar. This results in polyuria or excessive urination. People with excess glucose in their blood, as in uncontrolled diabetes, make frequent trips to the bathroom.

Excessive Thirst

Loss of water through urination triggers the brain to send a message of thirst. This results in a condition called polydipsia, or excessive thirst. This symptom is not always pronounced,you may notice that your mouth goes dry more frequently.

Dry Skin

Excessive urination,which may not be adequately compensated may lead to dehydration,this usually occurs in poorly controlled diabetes ,leading to dry skin.

Itchy Skin

Slow Healing of Cuts

Diabetes causes damage to the blood vessels and this decreases the blood supply to affected areas. Decreased blood supply in turn causes impaired defense mechanisms leading to slow healing of wounds.

Blurred Vision

Diabetes can affect the eye lens, which focuses light reflected from objects, on to the retina, where images are formed and translated into electric impulses for interpretation by the brain. Blurred vision can be caused by fluctuations in the amount of glucose and water in the lenses in your eyes during periods of dehydration.

Always Being Very Hungry

When there is little or no insulin to release glucose into the body's cells,the cells get no food and they starve.this may occur even if your food intake is adequate. The starving cells stimulate the hunger center of your brain resulting in polyphagia or excessive hunger.

Weight Loss

Weight loss may occur in people whose bodies produce no insulin (type 1) because without insulin, no fuel enters their cells and also there is lack of storage. When insulin is low, the body breaks down the fuels, and rapid weight loss results. The breakdown of fat cells forms fatty acids which pass through the liver to form ketones. Ketones are excreted in the urine(ketonuria).
