Tips For Planning A Diabetic Diet
Factors To Be Kept In Mind While Preparing A Diabetic Diet
- Minimal Protein: The minimal protein required for a good nutritious diet is about 0.9 g/kg/day.
- Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates should be taken in the form of starches or other complex sugars. Rapidly absorbed simple sugars must be generally avoided.
- Polyunsaturated Fat Intake: Saturated fat is atherogenic. Hence, polyunsaturated fat intake should be increased so that the ratio between unsaturated to saturated fat ratio is 1:10.
- Fish oils: These contain omega 3 fatty acids and are reported to be beneficial.
- High-fiber diet: This is considered beneficial because of its antiatherogenic effect mediated thorough lowering of blood lipids.
